Digging Can Be a Problem Even in Japan

16 million tons rare-earth material is found under Japanese seabed, only the mining technology still is a big question.


In theJapanexclusive economic zone (EEZ) around Ogasawara Islands and Minami-Tori-Shima (Tokyo) , rare earth resources available for world to use one century was found. This discovery will change Chinas position in the international rare earth and change the rare earth pattern in the world.


The annual output of the world is 0.14 billions tons, and the output of china’s is up to 55 millions tons, 40% of the world’. The seabed contains more than 16 million tons of rare-earth materials published in Nature Publishing Group's Scientific Reports.

According to data from the US Geological Survey, the worlds rare earth production is 140 million tons, of which, Chinas rare earth reserves are 55 million tons, accounting for 40% of the worlds total. The Japanese official forecast there are 16 million tons of rare earths can be extracted from the south sea  Island.


However, the content of rare earths on the sea floor is high,only  Mining technology is a major problem. At present,Chinahas always maintained its leading position.Japanstill needs to purchase rare earths fromChina.
